Guns and Swords in Two 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' International TV SpotsGuns and Swords in Two 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' International TV Spots

The big summer action movie is a notable export of these United States, and it's no surprise, since explosions and cool sword fights are like a universal language.  Dwayne Johnson may speak English, but his emphatic delivery and swaggering charisma are also universally appealing, so both are amply on display in two new international spots for G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  Both commercials fit templates established by previous Retaliation marketing, but you'll find some new footage, too.

You'll notice that, in addition to the erstwhile The Rock and his familiar American co-stars, both of these spots include a little extra sprinkling of Byung Hun-lee, who reprises his role as Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  These two international spots are meant for South Korea and Japan, where the Korean-born actor is a much more famous figure than he is Stateside.  Since the first film performed exceedingly well in both countries (, it makes sense that Storm Shadow would be tearing it up in thirty-second increments.

Big thanks to Bleeding Cool for the two TV spots that you can see below.

Byung Hun-lee's villainous Storm Shadow will again face off against his longtime nemesis, the Joe's resident sword-slinger Snake Eyes, played again by Ray Park.  As actors returning from the first film, they're in the minority, but they are joined by fellow cinematic Joe veterans Channing Tatum, Arnold Vosloo, and Jonathan Pryce.

Dwayne Johnson leads the new cast, but he's joined by newbies Adrianne Palicki, Joseph Mazzello, RZA, Walton Goggins, Faran Tahir, D.J. Cotrona, Ray Stevenson, and Bruce Willis as the original Joe General Joseph Colton.

While Stephen Sommers brought his usual goofy action to the first film, director Jon M. Chu is taking over on the second movie.  It's a new style for Chu, whose previous credits include Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and several films in the Step Up franchise, but based on everything we've seen, he's acquitting himself to slick action nicely.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation arrives in theaters on June 29th.
