It's perhaps not entirely surprising considering how long Microsoft have been pushing the idea of the Xbox 360 being more than just a games console, but more people are now using their 360's Live subscription to watch films or catch-up on TV shows than they are to play games online. The average household will spend 84 hours every month on Xbox Live and a little over half of that will be spent using the video or music services.
"What we're seeing is that people are turning on the Xbox to play games and then keeping it on afterwards to get other types of entertainment," Yusuf Mehdi, head of marketing and strategy for Xbox, told the LA Times.
I'd be interested to see how this compares with the PS3 because, frankly, I hate using the Xbox to watch videos. The odd time I've used the TV services have been fine, but the control scheme for DVDs (when compared with the PS3) is fairly cumbersome.
In comparison, the average household will watch 150 hours a month watching television.
