The last of these four pictures, which debuted at the official site, is the one with Penn as Cohen, wielding that tommy gun. First, though, we're introduced to the three other major players in the story. There's Ryan Gosling as Sergeant Jerry Wooters and Emma Stone as Grace Faraday, Cohen's squeeze who might be playing both sides of the fence. Then there's Josh Brolin as John O'Mara, the straightlaced LA police officer who assembles the eponymous squad.

Not included in the images above but definitely appearing as part of the film's ensemble cast are the likes of Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Mireille Enos, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, and Josh Pence.
The studio has been high on this film since former LAPD officer Will Beall turned in his screenplay based roughly on real events. While a veritable murderer's row were mentioned as potential directors, the man who ended up with the job was Ruben Fleischer, who previously helmed the comedies Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less.
Gangster Squad is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 7th this year.
