Barnabas Goes Nuts in a New 'Dark Shadows' International TV SpotBarnabas Goes Nuts in a New 'Dark Shadows' International TV Spot

The upcoming theatrical revival of Dark Shadows is indeed a comedy, but as a new minute-long international TV spot makes abundantly clear, it is very much the Johnny Depp show.  International Movie Star Depp plays Barnabas Collins, a role originated by the recently departed Jonathan Frid, and though Dark Shadows is populated by all manner of odd characters, it's clearly the vampire Barnabas who has the run of this particular show, a comedic update of the television series that ran from 1966-1971.

This particular TV spot is from Warner Bros Taiwain, which explains the subtitles.  It features some stuff we've seen in previous trailers and what have you, such as Barnabas marveling at the fabulous modern age in which a woman can be a doctor, but it also has a good amount of new stuff, including the ancient vampire communing with some hippie-types right before very politely murdering them all.

Big thanks to Coming Soon for the embed you see below.

Since Depp is looking pasty and gothic, you may very well have guessed that Dark Shadows is the latest collaboration between the actor and director Tim Burton, with whom he's worked on Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Alice in Wonderland, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.  Burton's working here from a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith, the mashup novelist behind Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  Grahame-Smith's second novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is getting the theatrical treatment this summer too, and Burton's producing that one.

But back to Dark Shadows.  The ensemble cast is headed by Depp and includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Jonny Lee Miller, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz, Bella Heathcote, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, and Gulliver McGrath.

Dark Shadows rolls into a theater near you on May 11th.
